Chestnut Creek Dairy

It’s been an exciting week here on the farm. As many of you know, we’ve been struggling to make enough cheese to meet demand for the past year or two… a good problem to have, but still a problem. We wanted to expand, but we’d hit the limit of how many cows our land could sustainably support, and new land was hard to come by.

But as of this week, we’re happy to announce that we have a signed contract for our second farm!

The new farm is a beautiful tract of land only a mile or two from us. Like our farm, it’s one of the rare pieces of land that hasn’t been broken up or had parts sold off for development; and like Meadow Creek, it houses the headwaters for one of the local waterways — Chestnut Creek.

There’s still a long way to go; we won’t  formally take possession of the land until April 15th. But we have big plans, both for the new farm and for a whopping two new cellars we’re hoping to start building once the ground thaws. It’s a big move for us, and it’ll require a lot of hard work, but we’re thrilled to finally take on this new challenge.

Expect lots more news (and pictures!) once spring gets here.
